Q3 Week 1: How can an author use fiction to make a point about culture and colonialism?

WEEK 1

W.9-10.8: Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the usefulness of each source in answering the research question; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

SL.9-10.4: Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and task.

Day 1 of 2
Do Now JOURNAL- Read Unit Overview- decide how you feel?  Are groaning inside?  Somewhat exicted (fiction, yah! no more quasi-Social Studies activity in ELA)? Culture anyone?

Agenda:
1. Talk-story about Q3 (weeks at a glance, IR, EA1 and EA2)
2. EA1: Unpacking
3. Culture Wheel and PRESEARCHING
4. Class Business (grades, rubric from Q2, etc)

Day 2 of 2
Do Now: Write down the two essential questions on page 174.  Leave space between both.  Turn to the TERMS section of your notebook and write down all the academic and literary terms you find.

2. Annotated bibliography explained
3. Partners and topic selection
4. Research workshop
