Week 9: Writing Your Literary Analysis Essay

CCSS:
RL.9-10.1 - Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
RL.9-10.2 - Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.
RL.9-10.3 - Analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.
Essential Questions:

a. How do characters respond to cultural collision?
b. How does cultural collision challenge a character's sense of identity?
c. How do characters' responses to cultural collision shape the meaning of the play?


Day 1 - - Brainstorm and 1st Draft - -
Assignment:  Your assignment is to work collaboratively to write an analytical essay about The Tempest in which you exam a character's response to cultural collision.  In your group's essay, analyze how the collision challenges the character's sense of identity and explain how his or her response shapes the meaning of the work as a whole.

Overview:
Your TRIO must divide up the Body Paragraphs.  Intro and Conclusion can be done collaboratively.

Step One:  Create a shared folder between Trio Members - Label it Tempest EA2, Last Names, Period #

Step Two:  Share the folder with  kherendeen@kkhs.k12.hi.us and
mcerny@kkhs.k12.hi.us

Step Three:  As a Trio, click here to make a copy of the Outline Organizer - only 1 for now

Step Four:  As a Trio, discuss and write your answers to the Planning and Prewriting Quetions on the Organizer

Step Five:  Each Trio Member will create their own document by making a copy of the Outline Organizer - label it with your last name, first name, Tempest EA2, pd #

Step Six:  Each Trio Member will place/file their Outline Organizer in the shared folder

Step Seven:  Each Trio Member will complete their portion of the Outline Organizer - combined, this is your 1st Draft
