Week 5: How can a playwright use cultural collisions to develop theme?

RL.9-10.2 - Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.

RL.9-10.3 - Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.


DAY 1 -
1. Do Now: Do you think you'll survive Shakespeare? Why or why not?
Tips:
a-KNOW YOUR EQs:Rank the Essential Questions on the handout - the easiest to answer would be 1 and toughest would be 10
b- Graphic Organizer to take notes about the play
c- Weekly Timed Writing on Day 3 - you select one of the Essential Questions from the handout
2. Scope and Sequence of events:
This Week: Watching the movie version (Taymor)
Next Week: Finishing movie version and comparing it to scenes from filmed play (Plummer)
3. Focus on the action and watch for human emotion and know that it will eventually make sense.  Trust us...we've done this before.

DAY 2-
1. Do Now: Work with a partner and choose one EQ.
